Congratulations to the winners of Share - South Australia’s Collaborative Economy Challenge. The innovative initiative sparked the generation of some fantastic new ideas.
Share called for sharing economy project and enterprise ideas from across Australia, with the aim to unlock initiatives that create economic or social value for South Australia.
The challenge took place between March and October 2017 and was intensively promoted across Australia with nearly 20 events and workshops delivered in partnership with universities, non-for-profits, startups and local government.
The Better Together Showcase 11: Collaborating to Create Value, was a one-of-a-kind promotional event for Share, featuring well-renowned pioneer sharing economy enterprises including Share major partner Airbnb.
122 ideas were submitted to the Share Challenge, the grand majority from South Australia and 18 from other states including Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia. 86 eligible ideas were pre-selected and then assessed by an independent judging panel with expertise in business, entrepreneurship, innovation and the sharing economy.
10 finalists were selected to be part of an incubation and mentoring program run by the New Venture Institute, Flinders University. The 3-month program assisted the finalists to develop their ideas further and increase their networks in South Australia. CEOs and founders of a number of well-recognised business’ catalysts such as Adelaide Smart City Studio and Renew Adelaide, as well as experienced Flinders university lecturers, came together at the Tonsley Innovation Precinct to share their knowledge and inspire the ideators to kick-start their projects. Topics like Entrepreneurial Mindset, Design Thinking, Business Model Hacking, Finance Management and Pitch coaching were only a few from a number of various relevant and practical themes included in this successful program.
After careful selection, five ideas were nominated to pitch their ideas. Finalists competed for a major prize of $50,000 and a People’s Choice prize of $10,000 in front of a live audience as part of the Open State Share pitch event.
The grand prize of $50,000 was jointly awarded to SpacetoCo ($25,000) – a platform that connects communities by unlocking unused spaces to share, and Connecting Up to Shared Assets ($25,000) – which supports the sharing of specially modified vehicles for the disability sector. The People’s Choice award of $10,000 was awarded to SpacetoCo.
